Figure 1. Young Focus Philippines INTRODUCTION It is undeniable that one of the Philippines' most serious problems is poverty, and the first victims of that poverty will be the children. In truth, child poverty in the Philippines is extremely prevalent, at 31.4 percent in 2015. Given that 33 percent of Filipino children are already malnourished, an increase in this statistic might have potentially disastrous consequences for their livelihoods. Furthermore, 27 percent of the population resides in metropolitan areas. For people living in poverty, this means crowded living quarters and a lack of clean water and sanitation. In 2011, 25% of the Filipino population did not have access to better sanitation.
